"Compromise is not about losing. It is about deciding that the other person has just as much right to be happy with the end result as you do. "

When Compromise Isn't Easy
Making room for someone else's happiness.
Compromise. Have you ever noticed how just bringing up that word can make the hair on the back of your neck stand up? I know it has that effect on me sometimes.
I learned the hard way that you can't always get your way just because you want to. That's not always easy to accept, especially when you feel strongly about something. But I've also come to realize that the other person probably feels just as strongly about what they want.
I read quite a bit about compromise because I wanted to understand how to make it work better in my own relationship. I wasn't looking for ways to win an argument. I wanted us both to feel good about the decisions we made together. That's not as easy as it sounds, and I certainly haven't figured it all out.
Maybe some people find compromise comes naturally. I've known a few people, though, who seem to let their ego get in the way of a pretty good relationship.
I wonder how often that happens without us even realizing it.
