How long have you carried what you could forgive?

Why is it so much harder to forgive ourselves?

Have you ever noticed how easily you can forgive someone else?

They make a mistake. They say they're sorry. You understand.

Maybe you even tell them not to be so hard on themselves.

But when it's you who made the mistake, something changes.

I've wondered about that.

Why can we offer someone else the understanding we sometimes refuse to give ourselves?

Maybe you've replayed something you said or did, long after everyone else has moved on.

Maybe you've wished you could go back and handle it differently.

I know I've had moments like that.

And yet, what would happen if you allowed yourself the same forgiveness you've offered someone else?

Not because the mistake didn't matter.

Not because you're pretending it never happened.

But because carrying it forever doesn't change what happened.

There's something about forgiving yourself that feels like opening a door you've been standing in front of for a long time.

Maybe you know which door I mean.
