Forgive, Forget, or Both?

Sometimes Peace Begins With Choosing What To Let Go Of.

Today's quote caught my attention because of its simplicity.

"If you cannot forgive and forget, pick one."

Eight little words. Nothing complicated about them, yet somehow they say a lot.

I started thinking about situations I've experienced where I had a choice. I could stay upset about what happened, or I could try to forgive and move on. Sometimes, honestly, I couldn't do both. I could forgive, but the memory stayed. Or I could try to forget, but the feelings were still there.

What I eventually began to notice was how much energy I was giving to something that had already happened. I couldn't change it. I couldn't go back and make it different. So why was I continuing to give it so much space in my life?

Maybe that's where forgiveness becomes less about the other person and more about me.

When I forgive someone, I'm not saying what happened was okay. I'm choosing not to keep carrying all those negative feelings connected to it.

And maybe that's the part we sometimes miss.

We don't always get to choose what happened to us.

But perhaps we do get to choose how long we keep carrying it.

Take care and may today bring you a little more peace, a little more laughter, and a reason to keep believing.
