Focus: Elements Of Success

Welcome to the 17th Edition of MotivateUs.com's Newsletter

My Dear Friend,

I'm often asked "What are the Secrets for Success? How do you make things happen?" In a nutshell, here's how I see it: Along with the right attitude, belief, and initiative, commitment, action and hard work are all part of anyone's success. Ask any successful person you know if the journey was easy. Most will be honest and tell you no. Was it worth everything they had to go through? I'll bet yes, if it was a passion they followed.

Everything starts with a dream, an idea and then moves into the reality stage. First you have to believe that what you want IS possible. See it as if it has already happened and is part of your life. Hold that vision and then do something to bring it into reality. That "something" is called Action.

Action can be the hardest part. You have to move yourself out of a comfort zone to a place that isn't very comfortable at all.

Will your goal be easy to attain? Probably not. I know from my own experience that anything I have ever wanted in life, took a serious commitment on my part, a plan, action and a lot of hard work to see it through. Take each piece, one at a time and complete it. Move on to the next one. Soon you will have mastered many of the tasks you found so hard to do initially. Congratulate yourself on your movement. Be strong! Don't listen to those who want to impede your progress. Do it for you!

So the next time you want to do something different in your life, take the plunge! Be bold, make a commitment, take action, keep doing something everyday to move your dream forward into reality. Anyone can do this, anywhere, anytime.

Everything is possible; just ask me, I know!

Something I Was Feeling and Thinking:

Obstacles do not have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.. - Michael Jordan

Sometimes we are afraid of success but don't realize or acknowledge it. We are afraid of the obstacles that will show up. Can we get through them? Most definitely yes! Use your creative powers to find ways to overcome or use those obstacles to your advantage. They are part of the price you must pay to be successful.

Above all, remember this: Enjoy the process along the way. Have faith in yourself and don't be swayed to move off your course if the going gets rough; there are always bumps to make the journey more interesting and challenging. You may get a little bruised from time to time (ego), you may falter and have to change your approach, but you can do it!

Here's to you and your ability to succeed!

If you have a suggestion, a tip that has helped you succeed, I invite you to share it:

An Article / Story To Ponder:

Be patient and tough; someday this pain will be useful to you. - Ovid

No Pain, No Progress

As Lao-Tzu said, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." So what if that first step is a little painful?

You see, if you want to accomplish something, there are two kinds of pain you might encounter: the pain of discipline and the pain of regret.

Whenever you take that first step toward a new goal, you often experience the pain of discipline: the pain of hard work, the pain of sacrifice, as you single-mindedly pursue your dream.

On the other hand, if you don't go after your dreams, you might experience an even greater type of pain: the pain of staying stuck, which eventually turns into the pain of regret.

Remember, as Sydney J. Harris wrote, "Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable."

When you're really ready to make a change in your life, you'll find, as writer Anaiis Nin did, that the "risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

The great thing about discipline is if you discipline yourself on a daily basis, eventually something "magical" will happen, almost without your realizing it-one day, the discipline will turn into desire.

A runner who "makes" herself run on a daily basis, one day gets up "wanting" to run. The same holds true for writing, public speaking, or anything else.

So today, start that project, make that call, do what you need to do to begin. Here's a guarantee: If you work through a little pain, you'll see a little progress.

Twelve Points On Attitude

  1. It is your attitude at the beginning of a task more than anything else that will determine your success or failure.

  2. It is your attitude towards life that will determine life's attitude towards you. Despite many people's belief to the contrary, life plays no favorites.

  3. You control your attitude. If you are negative it is because you have decided to be negative and not because of other people or circumstances.

  4. Act as if you have a good attitude. Remember actions trigger feelings just as feelings trigger actions.

  5. Before a person can achieve the kind of results he wants, he must first become that person. He must then think, walk, talk, act and conduct himself in all of his affairs, as would the person he wishes to become.

  6. Treat everybody as the most important person in the world.

  7. Attitudes are based on assumptions. In order to change attitudes one must first change one's assumptions.

  8. Develop the attitude that there are more reasons why you should succeed than reasons why you should fail.

  9. When you are faced with a problem, adopt the attitude that you can and will solve it.

  10. We become what we think about. Control your thoughts and you will control your life.

  11. Radiate the attitude of confidence, of well being, of a person who knows where he is going. You will then find good things happening to you right away.

  12. In order to develop a good attitude, take charge first thing in the morning. Do you say, "Good morning, Lord" or "Good Lord, morning?"

Elements of Success

"Will" is what creates the energy and courage to create.

"Want" by itself, just isn't enough.

Being "willing" moves you beyond your limitations and into greatness.

Birds fly, fish swim and humans create. This is our nature. At the end of the day, both optimists and pessimists are always right. Why wait when you can create?

When you take your success for granted, you don't give yourself the chance to learn from the process and apply it in other areas of your life. Failure is simply a result that differs from the one we expected.

You can have success now, or you can have it later. It's entirely up to you. Success is waiting, here and now. It doesn't care where you came from, what you're doing or what you did previously. It's available to anyone who wants it and is prepared to go out and take it.

"You can't always get what you want" makes a great song lyric, but it's a terrible motto for life. The more you practice creating success in one area, the easier it becomes to create success somewhere else. If you're attempting to create something perfect, I have three words of advice for you: Get over it!

To be successful, you have to care about what you're doing. Creating success is all about fulfilling or manifesting the purpose for which you were born. When your mind is sharp, attentive and ready for use, you'll find that you can create anything you are willing to have. Our mind gives us the power to both create and destroy.

Three Quotes To Motivate You:

"Let not your obstacles turn you away from your dreams, for even the highest hurdles can be jumped or even crawled under."
--- Brandon Bonwell

"GUTS are a combination of confidence, courage, conviction, strength of character, stick-to-itiveness, pugnaciousness, backbone, and intestinal fortitude. They are mandatory for anyone who wants to get to and stay at the top."
--- D.A. Benton

"Somehow I can't believe that there are any heights that can't be scaled by a man who knows the secrets of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four C s. They are curiosity, confidence, courage, and constancy, and the greatest of all is confidence. When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable."
--- Walt Disney

Until Next Time, Remember:

Yesterday I dared to struggle, today I dare to win..- Bernadette Devlin

Walk Your Own Walk

You have to walk your own walk in this life. And as you are traveling down your road, don't look down at your feet. Keep your head up and your eyes focused on what you know to be true.

Be neither a follower nor a leader. You are not forsaken; you are forgiven, and when shadows exist simply find higher ground to tread upon.

If you come across an obstacle or an impasse, pay mind to it but don't focus on it for too long or your feet may sink into the quicksand that surrounds it. Find the courage to surmount it and continue on your journey.

Offer your hand to those you come across who are stuck in their own personal sand traps, but do not point them in the direction you feel they must go; that has to be their decision. Only imply to them that they are never alone, and they will eventually find their way.

When you get to where you are going and you look back, it is your own footprints you are going to want to see, not someone else's. The importance of your trials and tribulations is a gift to be beholden, for that is how you will learn whom you truly are.
