"Even if it's a little thing, do something for those who have need of a man's help, something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it. For, remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too. "

As September 11th approaches, I remember exactly where I was when the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. As I was driving to work and listening to the news, all of a sudden, the announcer said that a plane had flown into the tower. What was happening? It had to be a mistake.
I drove into our parking lot, quickly got out of my car, and ran to our building. Once inside, I saw so many people sitting everywhere in the lobby and their offices. Everyone was transfixed on the TVs watching the building burn, and 18 minutes later, a second plane crashed into the South Tower. No one could explain exactly what had happened, but now, this was no accident. Soon, more was to unfold in other locations and we would learn this was multiple hijackings and attacks.
It wasn't just Americans who died or survived on that day; it was a global community of people who worked at the Trade Center, at the Pentagon, and passengers on that fatal United Airlines Flight 93.
As the story unfolded, bravery was shining through. So many people responded, risking their own lives, including our neighbors to the north, our wonderful Canadian brothers and sisters.
If you don't know this story, please read it - it's about service to others - the true meaning of brotherhood, kindness, and love of their fellow man.
Here is a link to an article in the Toronto Star: Twenty years later, Canadians reflect on their efforts after the 9/11 attacks
Let us never forget this tragedy and those who risked their lives, those who lost their lives, those who survived, and their families and friends.
May God bless all of us.
Love and Blessings,
Marlene
