Your Calmness and Strength Will Help Everyone

While sitting in the waiting room of the ICU, I tried my best to comfort others as they came in. A simple hello, asking how they were doing, offering help, or just lending a listening ear was my way of coping with the trauma my husband and I were going through.

Sometimes, the others seemed to be okay, yet every day, there was at least one person I could comfort. I would always ask if they needed a hug, and if they said yes, it seemed to help both of us.

It's been my experience that when you reach out to be there for someone else, it truly matters. I didn't know the people in the waiting room with me, but we were all there for the same reason: someone we loved was in critical condition. Everyone was worried and fearful, but I knew I had to be calm and helpful to get through it with them.

Yes, I did this for them, and I did it for myself. We bonded together. By listening to their stories and sharing mine, we gave each other courage, strength, and hope.

So, if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, please reach out to the person next to you or across the room. Let them know that regardless of why you are there, you will also be there for them.

Just A Few More Observations and Lessons

It was during those long hours in the ICU waiting room, I truly realized the power of human connection.
