Maybe It's More Than Fear
There have probably been times when you wanted something, thought about asking for it... and then didn't.
Maybe you told yourself it wasn't that important.
Maybe you figured the answer would probably be no anyway.
Or maybe you just didn't want to put yourself in a position where someone else could disappoint you.
Funny how we can know something and still catch ourselves doing the opposite.
If you don't ask, nothing really changes.
Yet asking can feel uncomfortable because now there is a response waiting for you.
Yes. No. Maybe.
Something you didn't expect.
And perhaps that is the part we don't always think about.
Sometimes it isn't asking that holds us back.
Maybe it is being willing to hear whatever comes after the question.
Because once you ask, you have to let go of controlling the answer.
I have wondered about that.
What am I afraid of when I already know that staying quiet guarantees nothing will move?
Maybe you've caught yourself doing the same thing.
Wanting something. Thinking about asking. Taking a moment too long.
And then realizing the opportunity didn't disappear because you were incapable of reaching for it.
You just never reached.
