Sometimes Safety Can Hold Us Back

Have you ever noticed that feeling secure doesn't always make you happy?

Locks are interesting to me because they can make us feel safe. And I think most of us understand why that feels good.

But I can also remember times when I felt secure and wasn't particularly happy.

I don't know if I learned this somewhere as a child, or if I experienced it first. I do know that when I'm happy, I often feel a sense of security too. Maybe that's why I've always connected the two.

But they aren't necessarily the same thing.

Sometimes I wonder if feeling safe can keep us from taking the chance to find something that makes us happier.

Maybe that's what this quote made me think about.

The swallow can't build a nest without taking the chance of flight. There is something about that I keep coming back to.

I wonder if you've ever felt that way too... knowing you are safe, but still wondering what might be waiting for you if you took the chance to fly.
