Each of us has a hidden place
    Somewhere deep within ourselves;
A place where we go to get away,
    To think things through,
To be alone, to be ourselves.

This unique place, where we confront our deepest feelings,
Becomes a storehouse of all our hopes,
All our needs, all our dreams,
    And even our unspoken fears.

It encompasses the essence of who we are
And what we want to be.
But now and then, whether by chance or design,
Someone discovers a way into that place
    We thought was ours alone.

And we allow that person to see, to feel and to share
All the reason, all the uncertainty
And all the emotion we've stored up there.
That person adds new perspective to our hidden realm,
Then quietly settles down in his own corner of our special place,
Where a bit of himself will stay forever.
And we call that person a friend.

I want to thank you for being my Dad
For making me smile, when I'm feeling sad
For telling me I'm pretty when my self esteem is low
Thank you for letting me know

I'll never forget the day I heard you were ill
It was snowing that day and there was no school
I worried and wept as I began to frown
But then I thought, you never let me down

I prayed every night from that cold day on
    I prayed for you Dad
And I reminded myself that you are strong

That day truly changed my outlook
I began to appreciate every breath that I took
I knew God would help us, but didn't know when

Then came the day when our lives changed
The telephone rang... And that's when I knew
God has chosen to give the gift of life to you

    He knew you've been patient,
    As each day went on
    He knew you had hope,
    That would never be gone

    I thanked God that night,
    For that twist of fate
    And felt relieved
    That it wasn't too late

Now you can give more winks and smiles
And that makes living my life much more worthwhile

    I Wish...

I wish that life was easier
And that grown-ups could give us more respect.
I wish they let us each be our own person,
And that we weren't always supposed to be perfect.

How come grown-ups never notice our smiles?
How come they always ask if we're okay?
I wish they'd see how happy we are,
Without hearing their worries each day.

I wish they could only see
How full of life we can be.
And I wish we could make our own dreams
Without hearing how unrealistic we seem.

    We need all their support,
    We don't need more insults
We need a solid friend to depend upon,
Simply because we're not quite adults.

We don't mean to blow-up or breakdown,
    They need to understand,
    A day can be tough,
And that's sometimes why it's just fine to frown.

Teen life is not so clear and easy.
There are highs but there are lows as well.
From first crushes and best friends-
    To rejection and betrayal.

We don't want to be told of our potential
Or hear about the chances we're given,
We like to be free and wild,
    And to just enjoy living.

I wish they'd see the lives we touch
    And the differences we make.
We try so hard, and yet,
They never see all the chances we take.

Why can't they just accept us
And be happy with who we are.
I wish they could see our beauty
And not say our dreams, like stars, are too far.

Because sometimes these stars of ours are
Just our goals, and not much more,
    And sometimes our goals
Are all that we may wish for.

    I wish grown-ups could see
    How amazing we can be,
That is my dream, my goal,
And of course, my only star.

    I AM

I am a girl, who's fire burns transparent but seen,
Full of emotion and unexplainable curiosity.
I want to spread my wings and soar.

I am a teenager, rebellious yet cautious.
I want to be free from my parents, but then I run into their open arms
    After glass has been shattered.

I am an athlete, wanting to excel and master.
Neglecting the pain of every fall, glorifying every triumph,
But intimidation taunts me as I watch someone else climax.

I am a person, with faults and imperfections,
Trying to shield myself from swords of hate
Wanting to stand up for my beliefs,
But who will listen to my powerless words and learn?

I am one, created in the image of God
I am what I accept myself to be.

"Never judge someone from the outside, always judge someone from the inside. You never know if that someone is truly innocent from the outside till you look deep from the inside. You finally found out they aren't what you thought they were. Judging someone isn't a good way to get a friend. Listen to your heart instead a little voice in your mind."

"Ignorance is bliss, they say. Simplicity is happiness. But for who? A life lived for yourself, is not a life worth the while. Be aware of the injustice and wrongs, and work to change them not for yourself, but so you can have a life that was worth the while. Help others and God will help you."

    Kids Who Are Different

Here's to kids who are different
Kids who don't always get straight A's
    Kids who have ears
Twice the size of their peers,
And noses that go on for days.

Here's to the kids who are different,
Kids they call crazy or dumb,
    Kids who don't fit,
With the guts and the grit,
Who dance to a different drum.

Here's to the kids who are different,
    Kids with a mischievous streak.
    For when they have grown,
    As history has shown,
It's their differences that make them unique.

People die... so love them everyday.
Beauty fades... so look before it's gone.
Love changes... but not the love you give.
And if you love, you will never be alone.

If you believe you can, you will.

If you don't try, you missed out on life."

    Rules of Life

Don't worry about what others think
Stay true to what you believe
Don't do things that you don't consider right
It will only hurt you in the end
Cry if you feel like crying
It can only make you feel better
Smile even if you think nothing is right in the world
    You will thank yourself later
Don't think everything depends on you
Everyone has a part to play
    Don't dwell on the past
    It will ruin the future
Try to make the best of everything
Because you still have to deal with it
    Don't tell lies
People may get the wrong idea
    Treat everyone as a friend
    You may need one someday
    Don't give up
You can make it if you give it all you have
These are the rules of life that you mustn't forget
Everyone must fall and everyone must get up
Remember these statements and always know
That if no one else in the world cares,
    God will
And if no one else in the world understands,
    I will

"Listen to me carefully now, I tell you this with an open mind and a free heart. Paint a portrait of life to be proud of that could not be sold for all the money on earth. Hang that portrait in your mind and understand it's ever presence. Reflect on every brush stroke that makes all the mountains and valleys and rivers and skies the most beautiful in the land. Share your portrait with others but beware their brushes. Select only those whose brush will add to the beauty and structure of your masterpiece."
