THE MOTHER I WISH I HAD

The Mother I wish I had is in fact a woman I hold dear,
She may not know every cut and scrape,
But she knows just what to say when I feel I can't go on.

The Mother that I wish I had is in fact no mother to discuss.
For if people were to know they wouldn't understand.
The mother that I wish I had is in fact my strength in life.
The Mother I hold dear is in fact not my mother at all.
But even so, She does not hold back the feelings that she feels.

The Mother I wish I had is in fact my inner light.
I do not know why but I live to make her proud.
I do not know why but I live to make her cry.
I do not know why but tears of joy are all I understand.

I wish I knew about tomorrow.
I wish I knew if in fact the words she speaks are true.
I do not know why but I cry for the losses I have not experienced.
I cry for the Mother I wish I had.
