Mothers And Sons Have a Special Bond
October 26, 2012
|
I wrote this for my mother and my perception of what she is as an influence in my life.
A Son's Love - Dedicated to Cathey, my wonderful mother.
In life there are many examples of what is right and what is wrong. Religion is forefront in many peoples' lives, whereas legalistic standards outline the rules from which society governs its people.
To me it is not singular in one aspect, nor the combination of the two that form the makeup of moral decency. What forms my basis of right and wrong stems back far before the formation of organized
religion or legal code to something at the core of humanity: the relationship of a son with his mother.
If you try to sit back and think of your earliest memory, some things may stand out like a happy moment on the baseball diamond, or perhaps a moment of fear you experienced as a child. As these memories
flash back to me, it is hard to place which one came first and if one of them is truly my earliest; but what is certain is that my mother was always there.
I remember you at every single defining moment of my life. Regardless of where and how they were formed, you were always there. If not in body, the thought of either your praise or your recourse was always
in the forefront of my mind.
It is here that I learned the distinction between the two, as this was made possible by my relationship with you.
At times it was hard to accept your words as truth, especially as a teenager when all I wanted to do was rebel in my youth. As I have had the pleasure of time to pass by, it is now that I know you were
the right person to decide.
It angst me to say, by maybe there is truth in the saying that a man always marries someone like his mother. Yes you are beautiful and an educated woman, but these are generic traits when searching for a woman.
It is your core traits that I truly seek in another.
I seek your patience, your encouragement, your unconditional love.
I seek your humility, your decency, your embodiment of home.
I need your humor, I need your strength, I need your determination, But most of all I need someone that is loyal.
Although it humbles me to say, but the truth of life is always challenging not to delay. I can't think of anyone on earth that I am more alike, after all you did choose my father and that has worked out
better than just alright. I know we have had disagreements and our fights, but I just want you to know that you were always right.
With many years ahead, I am anxious to see if there is another woman out there that is just like you and me. I know I have not met her because it is simple to see, that I have not felt the type of love that
there is between you and me.
If the day does come that I meet my wife, I hope that you will be there to tell me that I chose just right. If by chance we are no longer together in this life, sit back and smile, and see me choose what's right.
After all, it is because of you that I still have a dog in this fight.
